Who we are
AI Potluck is an AI-powered application and website operated by Current AI ("Current AI", "we", "us" or "our"), an independent non-profit organisation that promotes a new framework for artificial intelligence. Current AI is located at 64 Avenue Parmentier, 75011 Paris, France and can be reached at legal@currentai.org.
Current AI is the controller of the personal data processed through AI Potluck. This means that Current AI determines the purposes and means of processing your personal data.
AI Potluck is currently released as an Alpha version, whose access is restricted to authorised participants. As the service evolves, its features and the way personal data is processed may change. If we make material changes to this Privacy Notice, we will update it and, where appropriate, notify users
To provide AI Potluck, Current AI relies on a number of trusted technology and infrastructure providers, including Public AI. These providers process personal data only as necessary to host, secure, maintain and operate the service on behalf of Current AI.
What this Privacy Notice covers
This Privacy Notice applies to:
- The AI Potluck website (aipotluck.org)
- The AI Potluck chat (Alpha), available at https://www.aipotluck.org/chat/
It explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, the legal basis for processing, who we share it with, how we protect it, how long we retain it, and your rights under applicable data protection laws.
The short version
The AI Potluck Alpha chat does not require users to create an account. It does not collect your email address during normal use and does not associate your conversations with email addresses submitted through our website.
If you choose to join our mailing list or submit a contribution to AI Potluck or the Gap Map, we will collect your email address for those specific purposes only.
By default, we do not store your messages. We do not use your conversations to train AI models. We do not sell your personal data. We do not display advertising. Session data is deleted on a rolling monthly basis. We only retain data as described in this Privacy Notice.
The sections below explain the above in more detail.
How AI Potluck works
When you submit a prompt through AI Potluck, Current AI securely transmits it to the AI infrastructure that generates the response.
Current AI operates the service and is responsible for the processing of your personal data.
Current AI uses trusted technology providers, including Public AI and Hugging Face, to host and operate parts of the underlying AI infrastructure. These providers process data only as necessary to deliver, secure and maintain the service and do not use your prompts for their own purposes.
What we collect
Email updates and contributions
If you choose to join the AI Potluck mailing list or submit a contribution to AI Potluck or the Gap Map, we will ask for your email address.
We use your email address only for the purpose for which you provided it, including:
- sending you updates about AI Potluck where you have asked to receive them;
- communicating with you about a contribution you have submitted; or
- responding to your enquiries.
The AI Potluck chat does not collect your email address and does not associate your email address with your conversations.
Where you subscribe to receive updates, we rely on your consent to send those communications. You may withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link included in our emails or by contacting us.
When you use the chat without an account
The chat does not require sign-in. When you use it without an account:
- Your messages are processed to generate a response. They are not stored beyond the current session.
- A session ID is assigned to your session. This ID is anonymous; it is not linked to your name or email.
- Session data is deleted on a rolling basis, approximately every month.
We do not collect your name or email address as part of normal chat use.
When you request data deletion
If you ask us to exercise your data protection rights or request deletion of your session data, we may ask for your email address so we can send you a deletion confirmation. This email address is used only for that purpose and is not retained.
When you report a problem
The chat has a "Report a problem" button available in every session. If you use it, we collect a description of the problem and your session ID. Reports are routed to Coop, our moderation platform built by ROOST, for review. Your session ID is anonymous; your report is not linked to your identity unless you include identifying information in your description.
Website Analytics
We use PostHog to collect anonymized analytics about how visitors use the site (pages visited, features used, session duration). IP addresses are anonymized before storage. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking.
What we do not collect
We do not collect or store:
- The content of your messages beyond the current session
- Your name, unless you provide it voluntarily
- Your contacts or any information about third parties you mention
- Behavioral profiles or cross-session histories
- Data for advertising purposes
We do not use your conversations to train models. The Apertus foundation model used in the chat is trained only on consensual data; your inputs do not feed into it.
Moderation and safety logging
Our moderation system runs on the Coop Moderation Platform, developed by ROOST and operated by Current AI.
When a moderation event occurs, the following is logged to our Coop moderation instance:
- The policy that was triggered (e.g., CSAM, harmful content, behavioral notice)
- The content category,
- The specific message that triggered moderation
- Your anonymous session ID
- A timestamp

Telemetry
To operate, monitor and improve AI Potluck, we collect aggregated technical telemetry (query volume, latency, error rates). This telemetry is shared with our anchor compute partner, CSCS (Swiss National Supercomputing Centre), which donates the infrastructure that runs the chat.
Telemetry does not include the content of your conversations.

Where personal data is transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area, Current AI uses appropriate safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection law.
Data retention

Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- access your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate personal data;
- request deletion of your personal data;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to certain processing;
- request portability of your personal data where applicable;
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Managing your data in AI Potluck
To make it easier to control your data, AI Potluck also provides the following features:
Delete your session data: You can delete your data manually from within the chat in one or two steps. We clearly explain what is deleted including active session data and any applicable backups. There is no friction or guilt prompt on the way out.
Export your data: Where available, you can export your session data before deleting it.
Legal basis for processing
Current AI processes personal data on the following legal bases under the GDPR:

Children
AI Potluck is not intended for children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
If you believe a minor has provided personal data through AI Potluck, please contact us at legal@currentai.org so that we can investigate and, where appropriate, delete the information.
Changes to this Privacy Notice
If we make material changes to this Privacy Notice, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify users. Because the chat requires no account, we cannot notify users by email. By default, material changes will be announced on the website.
