AI Potluck Terms of Use
Last updated: 9 July, 2026 · Applies to: aipotluck.org, the AI Potluck chat (v0.1), and the Gap Map (v0.1).
What these terms cover
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of AI Potluck, including:
- the AI Potluck website (aipotluck.org);
- the AI Potluck Alpha chat; and
- the AI Potluck Gap Map.
AI Potluck is operated by Current AI ("Current AI", "we", "us" or "our").
By accessing or using AI Potluck, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, you must not use the service.
What AI Potluck is
AI Potluck is an initiative of Current AI designed to explore and demonstrate open, trustworthy and publicly beneficial AI technologies.
The service relies on open-source software and publicly supported computing infrastructure, including infrastructure provided by trusted technology partners. It is not owned by any single company. It runs on open-source software and a sovereign, publicly-funded compute (currently CSCS in Switzerland). The chat and Gap Map are both an alpha: an early, working proof of concept, not a finished commercial product.
Features may change, be added or removed, and the service may occasionally be unavailable or behave unexpectedly.
Who can use it
The chat requires no account. AI Potluck is intended for users aged 18 or above. We do not knowingly collect data from minors, and CSAM protection applies to every session without exception.
License to use AI Potluck
Subject to these Terms, Current AI grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to access and use AI Potluck for lawful purposes.
This licence does not permit you to:
- copy or commercially exploit AI Potluck except where expressly permitted;
- interfere with or disrupt the service;
- attempt to circumvent security or moderation measures;
- use automated means to abuse or overload the service;
- use AI Potluck in violation of applicable law.
We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect the security, integrity or lawful operation of the service.
Using the AI Potluck chat
The chat is browser-based. No sign-in is required to use it.
You agree not to use the chat to:
- generate or request illegal content;
- generate child sexual abuse material or attempt to do so;
- generate content that violates our Trust & Safety policies;
- circumvent or attempt to circumvent moderation systems;
- interfere with the operation or security of the service.
Our Trust & Safety Policy forms part of these Terms and is incorporated by reference.
Automated moderation, provided by ROOST via their Coop platform, runs on all inputs and outputs. When a message is declined, you're told what happened, which policy applied, and how to report it if you think it was wrong. Every session has a Report button, whether or not you're signed in.
The chat is not a substitute for professional advice (medical, legal, financial, or otherwise), and outputs may be inaccurate or incomplete. You remain solely responsible for evaluating any output before relying upon it.
Every response shows the model, organization, and compute behind it so you can evaluate it yourself; when the chat uses web sources, those are shown too.
Using the Gap Map
The Gap Map is an open, evolving visualization of the open-source AI ecosystem. Scores and statuses (live, building, gap) are generated against a stated, public methodology and are provided for informational purposes. We do our best to keep them accurate and cited, but we don't guarantee completeness or correctness of any individual entry. If you believe an entry is wrong, you can flag it through the contribution path on the relevant node.
Where the Gap Map draws on community or contributor-submitted data, contributors are responsible for the accuracy and rights to any data they submit. Gap Map data is available for reuse under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) with attribution to Current AI and OSO.
Your data
Our processing of personal data is described in our Privacy Notice, which forms part of these Terms.
In summary:
- the AI Potluck chat does not require users to create an account;
- the AI Potluck chat does not collect users' email addresses or associate conversations with information provided when subscribing to AI Potluck updates or submitting contributions;
- we do not use your conversations to train AI models;
- we do not sell your personal data;
- we do not provide advertising within the service; and
- moderation logging is carried out only as described in our Privacy Notice and Trust & Safety Policy.
Intellectual property
Current AI and its licensors retain all intellectual property rights in AI Potluck, including the website, software, branding, design, documentation and other original content, except where otherwise stated.
Open-source components used in the stack (including the Apertus foundation model and other contributed tools) retain their own original licenses. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any intellectual property rights to you. Current AI claims no ownership over contributed stack components.
Unless otherwise stated:
- website content is licensed under CC BY 4.0;
- Gap Map data is licensed as described in the Section on “Using the Gap Map”;
- third-party open-source components remain governed by their respective licences.
No dark patterns
Consistent with our public commitment: no re-engagement notifications, no streaks, no engagement-maximizing design. If you ever feel the product is nudging you to stay longer than you intend to, that's a bug, not a feature, tell us via the Report button.
Service provided "as is" and Disclaimer of warranties
The chat and Gap Map are provided during a public alpha and may change, break, or be unavailable at times, without notice.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Current AI disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied or statutory, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
We do not guarantee that:
- the service will always be available;
- outputs will be accurate, complete or suitable for any purpose;
- the service will operate without interruption or error.
Limitation of liability
AI Potluck is provided free of charge as an experimental Alpha service.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Current AI shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, including any loss of profits, revenue, business opportunities, data or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of AI Potluck.
You acknowledge that AI Potluck is an early-stage proof of concept and that you use the service at your own risk. You are solely responsible for evaluating and verifying any information or outputs generated by the service before relying on them.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top and publish the revised Terms on the website. The approach is the same as with the Privacy Notice, since the chat requires no account and we can't notify you by email by default.
If you continue to use AI Potluck after the Terms have become effective, this means you have accepted these changes.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of France. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Paris, France.
