AI Potluck is headed to MozFest — Here's how to find us
We'll be launching Alpha v0.2, introducing our newest contributors, and joined by our partners to explore how together we can make AI ours.
Later this month AI Potluck joins thousands of technologists, artists, researchers and activists at the Mozilla Festival in Barcelona. A potluck works because everyone brings something to the table, and that's how we think about AI too: open, ethical, safe and shaped by the communities it serves.
Over three days, we and our partners will be hosting conversations on public-interest AI, alternative infrastructure, protecting the commons and more.
👋 Come say hello, join a session, and be sure to pick-up some swag from us.

Mainstage: Alpha v0.2 launch
Resistance Through Imagination · Wednesday · Oct 28 · 2:15 PM - 3:15 PM
Current AI's CEO Ayah Bdeir launches Alpha v0.2 and the newest AI Potluck anchor partners from the main stage at MozFest. Ayah presents alongside five voices, each challenging the assumptions baked into how AI is built and used, showing what becomes possible when we set different terms. Together, they ask: What are we unwilling to accept as the price of AI? Five voices, five well-versed objections, five solutions.
Presenters: Ayah Bdeir, María Álvarez del Vayo, Angela Odour Lungati, Chipo Mapondera, Benoît Courty.

Gap Map Jam: Building Shared Intelligence on the AI Ecosystem
Thursday · Oct 29 · 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM (CET) · B1 Room
Current AI, Kariba Labs
Join Current AI and our partners from Kariba Labs to contribute new perspectives, complements and focus areas for the Gap Map.
Pick a themed table and work with the people beside you to surface what’s missing and what would be most impactful. At the end, we’ll put every note on the wall and ask what would make the map useful for your work. A filter? A search agent? Something no one has built yet? What we gather will shape the next version of the Gap Map.
Builders, funders, advocates, researchers and organizers are all welcome.
Presenters: Laura De Reynal, Head of Design Research at Current AI; Joshua Tan, CTO at Current AI; Carl Cervone, Co-founder of Kariba Labs and Artio.

Cultivating Public Goods: Joint strategies to weeding out AI exploitation
Thursday · Oct 29 · 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM (CET) · G1 Room
Digital Public Goods Alliance
The open web’s implicit social contract is fracturing. Today, commercial LLMs and their parent companies aggressively extract value from the knowledge commons and open resources without reciprocating the resources, attribution, or traffic that sustain human data production. This interactive Forum aims to bring together developers, open-source maintainers, policy advocates, and digital rights defenders to explore, expand and invent ecosystem-level mechanisms for defending open resources while critically reflecting on the current open definition.
Presenters: Lea Gimpel, Director of Policy & AI Lead at DPGA; Angela Odour Lungati, Executive Director; Franziska Putz, Senior Advocacy Manager; Renata Avila, CEO; Anna Tumadóttir, CEO; Bolaji Ayodeji, DPG Evangelist and Technical Coordinator.

Insights & Rethinking: What is required to make AI yours?
Friday · Oct 30 · 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM · Open Source House, Developer Stage
Current AI
AI shouldn't be something you never asked for. AI Potluck’s global survey asks what you need from AI, where it fails you, where it serves you, and what you imagine it could be for you and your community.
Join Current AI’s Head of Design Research, Laura De Reynal who will share early results from our global survey. Following the presentation, we’ll break into small groups to dig in and test what we are learning against your own experience and insights. Then we’ll reconvene and decide what threads to tug on, and what questions to ask next.
Bring your opinions. We’ll bring the insights and the snacks.
Led by: Laura De Reynal, Head of Design Research at Current AI.

Building the Internet We Want: What Should the Stack(s) of 2046 Look Like?
Friday · Oct 30 · 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (CET) · B4 Room
Current AI, Digital Public Goods Alliance
What if we stopped treating today’s internet as inevitable? This session invites us to imagine the world 20 years from now and the infrastructures, technologies and communities that could shape it. Drawing on experiences building alternative digital infrastructures, we will explore what a different technological stack could look like in and for a better (multipolar) world: more distributed, autonomous, interoperable and community-driven. From alternative platforms and protocols to libre software and independent infrastructure, what would it take to build a digital ecosystem that is less dependent on Big Tech and more capable of supporting democratic and collective life? What could it mean for a just and democratic multipolar world?
Presenters: Joshua Tan, CTO at Current AI; Lea Gimpel, Director of Policy & AI Lead at DPGA; Sebastián Lehuedé, Lecturer in Ethics, AI & Society.

A Strategy Outlook for Digital Commons: Technology, Communities, and Governance
Friday · Oct 30 · 4:45 PM - 5:45 PM · F2 Room
Digital Public Goods Alliance
Digital Commons are shared digital infrastructure, built and governed in common. They are having an ambiguous moment in European policy. Sovereignty rhetoric opens space for commons-based approaches, but the Commission risks absorbing them into statist or industrial framings that hollow out their meaning. Drawing on NGI Commons research, this talk maps Digital Commons and sovereignty, explains why types of commons matter, and traces where the sovereignty, competitiveness, and AI race framings lead EU policy.
Presenters: Lea Gimpel, Director of Policy & AI Lead at Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA); Nicholas Gates, Senior Policy Advisor.

AI Potluck Alpha: Local Inference Demo
Friday · Oct 30 · 4:20 PM - 4:45 PM · Open Source House, Developer Stage
Current AI
Most of the computing power in this room is sitting in our pockets and bags. In this live demo, Andrew Tergis, Hardware Engineer at Current AI, will show us how easily you can add your own machines to the AI Potluck Alpha and run inference on them. Come see what public interest AI looks like when the infrastructure belongs to the people using it.
Presenter: Andrew Tergis, Hardware Engineer at Current AI.
