You can now search and sort the Gap Map

Gap Map Gap Map 2 days ago

We rebuilt the Gap Map and full dataset around one navigation, with search, sorting and a layer guide on both.

Search and Sorting

You can now search the Gap Map for a product or an organization. Select a result and you’ll land on that product’s page. Click back and you return to where you were.

You can sort the map by gaps, openness, category or maturity, in either direction. We set the default to most gaps first. On the full dataset page you can sort by overall score, adoption, capability or any other column, and you can collapse each layer or all of them at once.

Fixes & Minor Updates

  • Layer guide: On both the Gap Map and the full dataset, you can click the question mark beside the layers to see what each one covers. You no longer need to leave for the methodology page.
  • Layer tabs: As you scroll either page, tabs at the top show which layer you’re in. Click a tab to jump straight to that layer.
  • Layer order: We reordered the layers so you start with product and user experience and work down to infrastructure. That now matches how we describe the stack everywhere else on the site.
  • Map and dataset scope: On the Gap Map you’ll see open and open-ish products. On the full dataset you’ll see every product we’ve assessed, closed ones included. [PENDING: Carl or Josh, see notes]
  • Accessibility: We ran the Gap Map pages through the WAVE accessibility checker and fixed every critical error it found, including color contrast.
  • Mobile: On a phone, the layer cards on the landing page stack vertically so you can read each one.
