Le Chat

Mistral's consumer and enterprise assistant at chat.mistral.ai, offering web search, deep research across web and internal sources, file and canvas handling for documents, spreadsheets and presentations, and image generation. It runs primarily on Mistral's own models, and an on-premises deployment is offered to enterprises.

Mistral renamed Le Chat to Vibe during 2026, on the same URL and login. The slug here still reads le-chat; the rename is an identity question, not an evidence one. Verified 2026-08-14 via Mistral's rename notice, the Vibe Work documentation and the Vibe product page.

The Le Chat product and service is proprietary SaaS, distinct from Mistral's open-weight models, which are scored separately. Mistral's EU consumer terms, which govern this product, read "As between you and Mistral AI, we own all right, title, and interest in and to the Mistral AI Products" and grant only "a non-exclusive right to access and use", with no source and no self-host offer on the product page. Note that Mistral's help centre now says "Le Chat has become Vibe" and that the same URL and login land in Vibe with existing conversations, so the hosted surface has been renamed. The Vibe Code CLI ships separately as mistralai/mistral-vibe under Apache-2.0, so one component of the same product family is genuinely open, even though the hosted surface scored here is not.

Roughly 1.7M app downloads by May 2026 - TechCrunch reported 1M in the first 14 days after the February 2025 launch - alongside Mistral's statement that EU monthly active recipients are below 45M, and roughly 10.8M desktop visits to mistral.ai in March 2026. The honest read places real active users in the 1M-10M band. The under-45M figure is a regulatory ceiling rather than a measured count, so it is not used as the headline. What is actually banded is download volume: no active-user figure for Le Chat exists from Mistral or anyone else, and the mistral.ai visit count is site traffic, so the level is an inference from install volume, carried under an active-user label only because that is the instrument available for a consumer surface.

The product is now called Vibe and the surface described here is Vibe Work. Mistral's own product and documentation pages support every clause of the recorded feature list and more besides: Connectors, Libraries, Skills, Files and Canvas, web search and Open URL, image generation, voice mode powered by Voxtral, Projects, Workflows and scheduled tasks, plus deep research, spreadsheet and database analysis and "100+ tools including email, calendar, Slack, GitHub, Jira ... through connectors and full MCP compatibility".
