nano-graphrag

gusye1234

Small, hackable reimplementation of GraphRAG in roughly eleven hundred lines, written because the official implementation is hard to read or modify. It is portable, fully asynchronous and typed, with swappable graph, vector and model backends, and is meant as a reference and customization base rather than a production system.

Stale: no release since October 2024. Verified 2026-08-13 via the gusye1234/nano-graphrag repository.

Fully MIT: the entire reimplementation is published, with no hosted tier, enterprise directory or license key, so the core is ungated as well as OSI-licensed.

Adoption

1 medium confidence
1.0

1,334 downloads in the trailing 30 days for nano-graphrag, which bands at level 1 (<10K) on the software and model adoption scale. The package is first-party, and a download count outranks the star count that would otherwise flatter it. There has been no release since October 2024 and the figure is declining.

Capability

3 medium confidence
3.0

Trades breadth/polish for a small readable core. Development has stalled at 155 commits with no release since 2024, so the surface is unchanged in both senses. One below graphrag, the fuller implementation it reimplements.
