SkyPilot

SkyPilot
open source / Overall score: 4.4(strong)

Framework for running AI workloads on whatever compute is available - Kubernetes, Slurm, more than twenty clouds, or on-premise machines - behind one interface. A task declares its accelerators and how many nodes it needs; SkyPilot finds capacity that satisfies it, provisions the cluster, reserves the nodes for the job and exposes their ranks and addresses to the running code.

SkyPilot Platform is a separate commercial product announced alongside a seed round; the open project is not a reduced edition of it.

no — a 3,121-entry recursive tree carries a root LICENSE plus two vendored component files, and no path matching enterprise, ee, commercial or proprietary

SkyPilot is Apache-2.0, with the framework published whole. SkyPilot Platform is sold beside it, but that does not gate the core: the repository's LICENSE covers the whole tree with no enterprise, ee or commercial path, and SkyPilot's own site lists the open project and SkyPilot Platform as separate products.

Full untruncated recursive tree of the default branch, 3,121 entries. Licenses are the root LICENSE plus two vendored component files. No path matches enterprise, ee, commercial or proprietary. A tree lists paths; it is cited for that and for nothing about the vendor's offerings.

Repository page for skypilot-org/skypilot: Apache-2.0 license, public and unarchived, described as 'The AI Compute Platform for frontier teams'. Establishes the license and that the source is public.

  • https://www.skypilot.ai/ recorded 2026-09-16

SkyPilot's homepage, listing 'Open Source' and 'SkyPilot Platform' as separate items in its own navigation. Establishes that the commercial platform is sold beside the open project.

Adoption

4 high confidence
4.0

Adoption is measured by PyPI downloads of the skypilot package, its declared distribution channel.

Capability

5 medium confidence
5.0

Accelerators and infrastructure targets are SkyPilot's own schema fields, and SkyPilot provisions against them directly. num_nodes reserves a documented set of nodes for one job, and SkyPilot chooses and creates those machines itself rather than handing the request to another scheduler, which puts it level with KAI Scheduler.
